Gus Wortham Park Golf Course is Texas’ oldest 18-hole municipal golf course, and the oldest 18-hole golf course west of the Mississippi. Gus Wortham is an historic site and is rich in history. The golf course dates back to 1908 when Tom MacNamara and Willie Maguire were the first resident professionals at the then Houston Golf Club. Many of Houston’s elite have played at Gus Wortham and lived in its nearby neighborhoods. Throughout history, many famous golfers and tournaments have played and been played at Gus Wortham.
Wortham Park Friends, Inc. was organized to protect and enhance the value and usage of the Gus Wortham Park Golf Course by promoting the revitalization and beautification of the Golf course; and to promote improvements, maintenance and security of the Golf Course.
